Dancing can be  "Companionship, Exercise Activity, Escape from Stress, Sport, Group Social & Courtship Ritual. All in one, whatever you wish!"  (I think Yoda said this...)

The hardest part of learning to dance is walking in the door.  Walking in means you're ready to take a risk, learn something new and "put yourself out there to make a million missteps on the road to becoming a great dancer".  DanceWell has 4 different programs to fit your needs.   Here's how to get started with your dance lessons!!

  1. Check out our Calendar,  Group Class Program and Class Listings online...
  2. We have put together a page that lists many of the common questions people have about dance classes at New Student FAQ's and a list of the prerequisite skills you should have before joining classes.  Class Prerequisites
  3. For any questions call us (503) 241-0460 x0 or email at  linda@dancewellballroom.com
  4. Feel free to ask advice about which classes would best suit you and we can help you choose a group class or a private lesson to start with.
  5. The degree of difficulty varies for all dances.  Check our Dance Descriptions Page
  6. Get direction from our Map & Directions page.  GPS has trouble with our address.
  7. Here are  pictures of our two beautiful ballrooms, so you'll be familiar Ballrooms  Small group classes are held in the small studio and large classes and parties are in the Large Ballroom.  You will enter through the small ballroom, which fronts Allen Blvd.
  8. You are welcome to register for most classes the day of your class, just come in 15-20 minutes early for registration, to check in and take a tour.  If possible allow time to relax or stretch a few moments prior to class.
  9. Some classes fill quickly and you may wish to prepay by phone:  (503)241-0460 x0 or email linda@dancewellballroom.com   Our limit is 40 students per class.
  10. You can be put on a waiting list if your class is full.
  11. Take your 1st group class or private lesson!
  12. Look at the calendar and take more classes. Try as many dance styles as you can so that you can find the dance(s) you like best.

Things to know:

  • You never need a partner for group classes or private lessons.
  • You will rotate frequently with all the partners in class.
  • No dance experience needed. Most of our new students do not have a dance background.
  • Dress casual and wear shoes that don't fall off.   Avoid "non-skid" shoes.
  • Use a combination of private lessons, group classes, and evening dances to progress quickly.

Some suggestions if you're new to dancing:

BEGIN WITH ONE OF OUR BEGINNING CLASS SPECIALS  These classes, listed in red on the calendars, are at a slower place for brand new dancers and will teach you the first 3-5 dance patterns, timing and generally how to get started.  Dances taught at this level are the foundation for all other classes.  Note to Beginners about "Progressive Courses" (continuation of one dance):  Beginner classes are taught in two separate segments, Beginning Month 1 and Beyond Beginning, in 4-week series.  Our Monthly calendar lists each week of the course (for example: 1/4, 53/4) You may take just the first month if you choose, or if you know some of the dance you may skip Beginning and go right to Beyond Beginning.

DanceWell also offers a WellDance Program for Seniors as well as our other courses.  This program includes Balance and Movement classes as well as Social dancing classes.  Classes will continue in the Fall.

Our calendar is scheduled so that we offer at least two new BEGINNING classes each month.  After taking one class, you may choose to learn more new dances the next month.  There's lots of different music out there and one dance does not suit all...

We hope you'll meet some new friends and find dancing fun and rewarding in many ways.   It's the unexpected little moments and shared amusements that make up joy in life.  All the best to you in your endeavor.

DanceWell offers a Social Dance Program where our goal is to present ballroom and partner dancing in a friendly, holistic and upbeat atmosphere.

DanceWell offers an accelerated program  Ballroom Intensive Program, where you can learn both Leading skills and Following skills in the same class to be come a better dancer.  This is a nationally-based program patented by the Ballroom Dance Teachers College of SanFran.  This program is for those who like a very structured learning environment, who wish to learn dance very quickly - OR -  who may wish to Teach Dance  It includes a 2-hr. Intensive class weekly.
